Brown University AP credit

What each AP score earns at Brown University: 19 exams, credit shown in credits. Always confirm with the school before you plan your schedule.

Rules that apply to every exam

  • Brown does not award course credit for AP scores. Qualifying scores may earn placement credit or notation, which carries 0.0 course credit and does not count toward the 30 course credit graduation requirement.
  • An AP equivalency notation does not automatically satisfy concentration requirements. Consult the respective concentration department.
  • Incoming students may decline AP notations before the Registrar's Last Day to Add a Course deadline in their first semester. If no election is made, the notation is accepted by default.
  • Students who initially decline a notation may later request it, unless they registered for and failed the corresponding course or dropped it after the add deadline.
  • You cannot register for a course for which you have AP credit, and AP credit posted to the transcript will not be removed.
  • Contingent AP notations and later requests must be made after satisfying the requirements for earning credit. AP notations must be processed before graduation.
